Mr. T.W. (Tom) Gijsberts earned his honors bachelor of law degree from the University of Amsterdam (cum laude). He then followed the Master's programmes in Criminal Law at the University of Amsterdam (cum laude) and International Criminal Law at the University of Amsterdam and Columbia University (New York City, USA).
During his studies, he worked as a clerk in the Criminal Law Department of the District Court of Amsterdam and did an internship at - among others - Spong Lawyers.
He was sworn in as an attorney in 2015 and has been with Meijers Canatan Lawyers since then. He focuses exclusively on criminal cases and has extensive experience in violent cases (including life crimes), organized crime, SKY ECC cases, drug cases, major fraud cases and vice cases.
He assisted singer Glennis Grace in the so-called Jumbo case and he is the lawyer of Alex S. who is suspected of large-scale distribution of suicide powder Middel X. He is also assisting a suspect in the Yaros investigation into the "wild west robbery" at Schöne edelmetaal in Amsterdam-Noord. Other well-known cases in which he acted are the cases about the failed liquidation at Harbour Club in Vinkeveen, the attempted breakout from prison of one of the alleged Tattookillers, the stabbing to death of 17-year-old Akshay in Rotterdam, the Romanian stunt gang, Enschede firebomb throwers and the Brush and Muk cases dealing with the importation and possession of large consignments of hard drugs. He is also assisting one of the prime suspects in the 26/Milltown investigation into alleged million dollar fraud in the car trade.
Mr Gijsberts has entered into a partnership with Meijers Canatan Advocaten LLP pursuant to article 5.3 under b Voda. The contract of engagement is entered into with Meijers Canatan Advocaten LLP.
