Farewell Gabriel Meijers on 1 January 2019

On 03, Dec 2018 | In News | By - K. Canatan

On 1 January 2019, Gabriel Meijers will retire as a lawyer and thus from Meijers Canatan Advocaten. Gabriel was sworn in as a lawyer in 1986. After his traineeship at Moszkowicz Advocaten in Maastricht, he worked successively from 1989 to June 2008 at Abma Van Eeuwijk and Abma Scheurs Advocaten Notarissen in Amsterdam. Since 1 June 2008 he was a partner at Meijers Canatan Advocaten in Amsterdam, which he co-founded.

His style is characteristic of Gabriel: contemplative, empathetic and with a completely independent spirit. He has acted as a lawyer in numerous criminal cases, including cases that gained national fame, such as Coral Sea II, the Enschede fireworks disaster and the Klimop case. He was also active as a cassation lawyer and thanks to him 'Vidgen-verweren' are being conducted in many criminal cases. Several times he was chosen by his professional peers in the criminal lawyers top 10 of Peter R. de Vries.

He was a lawyer who could look at a file with sufficient distance and placed the case in the zeitgeist. As a result, he was able to pinpoint where the odds were or were not. For clients, Gabriel was above all a lawyer with a listening ear for anyone who turned to him.

For our office, Gabriel was the 'office father', the one who asked how you were doing, gave his opinion in his own unique way and with his youthful character, and not unimportantly: we could not only laugh with him, but also very much about him. Gabriel brought peace and quiet to an office with a sometimes hectic practice.

We are therefore pleased that Gabriel will remain attached to the office as an external advisor.
